Two Wentzville Educators Recognized For Outstanding Teaching & Leadership

Two outstanding educators in the Wentzville School District have been recognized by the Missouri Staff Development Council (MSDC). Dr. Susan Gauzy, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, was presented with the Outstanding Instructional Leadership Award, and Holt High School math teacher Constance Hallemeier was honored as Outstanding Teacher at the annual Show-Me Professional Development Conference. The MSDC recognizes educators who have a significant impact on students and their fellow educators. There is a stringent scoring guide that aligns to the Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning, and the MSDC recognizes instructional leaders who exceed in all twelve of these standards.

Prescribed Fires Scheduled In St. Charles County Parks

The St. Charles County Parks Department is getting ready to conduct its annual round of prescribed burns throughout its regional park system. Weather permitting, these controlled burns will be conducted through April 2012 with fires occurring in park forests, woodlands, savannas, prairies and wetlands.

SCC Student Film Festival Now Accepting Entries From High School & SCC Students

St. Charles Community College is now accepting entries from area high school and current SCC students for its annual Student Film Festival until 5 p.m. Thursday, April 19. The awards ceremony will take place from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Auditorium of the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building on the SCC campus.

Home Sales Continue To Grow In St. Charles County

The real estate market in St. Charles County continues to show growth. Sales of existing homes in February rose 19.4% in February over the same period one year ago. In what is a great indication of market strength, contracts written increased 16.7% in February over February of 2011.

Morning Star Church Asking Community To Help Furnish Hope

Morning Star Church's "Furnishing Hope Ministry" is hosting a community-wide collection day on Saturday, March 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for area residents to donate their gently used furniture. The goal of Furnishing Hope is to collect 150 pieces of furniture to provide to those in need in the Waveland, Mississippi region that were affected by Hurricane Katrina.

WSD Students Tally Up Awards At Regional Math Competition

WSD students competed at the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) 27th Annual Regional Math Competition held Saturday, March 10th at Rock Creek Elementary School in O'Fallon. A total of 48 4th and 5th grade students from Boone Trail, Crossroads, Green Tree and Prairie View Elementary Schools, as well as a group of 6th graders from Frontier Middle School, competed by taking tests in Concepts and Problem Solving. The competition drew 230 students from 27 area public and private schools. Twenty two WSD students placed in the top 10 for their grade, and the following students will advance to the MCTM State Math Finals held at Missouri State University in Springfield on Saturday, May 5th:

Runner Kara Lough Commits To Park University

Indian runner Kara Lough has committed to compete for Park University in Parksville, MO next year. With her mother Kimberly and her father Darryl by her side, the cross country star signed her National letter of Intent at Holt High School. This past season Kara qualified to compete at the state meet and is now looking forward to competing at the collegiate level. "I really like the size and feel of the campus," said Kara. "I'm excited to go there."
